Albuquerque Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2
|
William Palmer was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.
The right-hander pitched the Albuquerque Dukes to victory at Dukes Field today, staving off the Samalayuca Enjambre, who remain one game away from a title. Palmer threw 8.2 innings of 7-hit ball. The win cuts the series deficit for the Dukes to 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Had Cody Roberson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Roberson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Dukes.
Enjambre manager Tony Starkes did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the Campeonato del Río Bravo."
Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at Enjambre Park in Juarez.
