Albuquerque Breaks Through for First Win in Campeonato del Río Bravo; Now Trails 2-1
Behind a bravura effort from starter John Madding, the Albuquerque Dukes topped the Samalayuca Enjambre by the score of 3-0 today and got their first win in the 1897 Campeonato del Río Bravo. Madding threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball for the Dukes. The win narrows Albuquerque's deficit to 2-1.

Madding was in the zone all game. He frustrated Samalayuca hitters while giving the Dukes 9 innings of quality work. Madding threw 140 pitches, allowing 8 hits and getting 3 punchouts.

"A complete game shutout in the Campeonato del Río Bravo?" an incredulous Madding said to reporters after the game. "Man, my arm could fall off tomorrow and I'd be happy with my career."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dukes Field in Albuquerque.
